Why Education system needs to change for LGBTQ children?

Hi everyone this is Sam here. Education is something that most of us take as granted. It gives shape to one's dream, support to stand on one's own feet and moulds our behavior and perspectives. It is very essential for proper development of a person who is responsible enough to think about others. Removal of any sort of bias with logical and rational thinking is what education aims for. But when it comes to gender issues education takes a very unusual stand. Why? Why education and educationists or educational psychologists often fail to understand the issues of LGBTQ children?

To find out the answer we need to dig deep. Education starts way before a child starts to talk or understand the meaning of a word. Study shows that children start learning as early as prenatal stage, that is before birth. A new born child isn't an empty vessel as they are well aware of  their surroundings.

Recognition of mother's voice or even songs can trigger learning during pregnancy. As we grow up, we start learning terms which are either taught or frequently used by family members. The sense of gender comes much later. Gender sense gives an idea about gender role, that is things specifically assigned to a bou or a girl. Stereotyping gender is also taught informally by family and formally by institutions or schools.

On average a child spends about 6-7hours at school for a very long time in his/her lifetime. The growth and development that takes place in these years lead to raise a lot of questions most of which remains unanswered.

For a very long time LGBTQ is considered as taboo and still there are plenty of countries kept this thought hydrated. Children having different sexual preferences often become a subject of public humiliation or violence. Adolescents are more prone to find out the answers of such questions either through experiments or addiction. Addiction can range from using alcohol, drug, smoke to porn. Mental health deteriorates along with physical health.

Our education system is highly influenced by a handful of people who are in power. This gives them the opportunity to control over everything that first generation learners learn in school. LGBTQ is always considered as minority and burden to the society which failed to set an example for these children due to lack of social recognition. Orthodox mentality of older generation fails to understand such issues and paints children's lives in their colors.

The development of any nation depends upon its youth. If they are not given the opportunity to take their decision then how will they take responsibilities in life? Constitution provides the freedom, not being judged by our gender or sexuality then why society fails to understand that? Education can change this scenario, provide the answers of these questions. It's time to recognize us as HUMAN being, a citizen of this country and not treated as second class citizens.
